Elementary Schools
Cherry Valley is a primary elementary school serving 310
students, which staffs 18 full-time certified teachers, 4
shared
teachers, 12 teacher aides assisting in the classrooms and is
also staffed by the district psychologist, a social worker,
and a
full time speech pathologist. Kindergarten through fourth
grade classes are located at Cherry Valley Elementary school.
There are also primary and intermediate multi-age classes
offered. Average class size for kindergarten is 16; for first
and second grades is 21; and for third and fourth grades is
22. Cherry Valley's Title I program includes the Reading
Recovery program for first grade students. Two Reading
Recovery teachers implement this program. Health and physical
education classes are taught by certified physical education
instructors and Cherry Valley's music program is also under
the direction of a certified music instructor. Volunteers add
to the enrichment of Cherry Valley students' educational
experience.Parent volunteers help in classrooms. There is a
strong PTA and a community reading program has been
implemented.
Linderman Elementary School includes approximately 19
full-time, two part-time, and three shared certified teachers.
Five instructional aides also work with the student
population, which includes kindergarten through fourth grade.
Internet and intra-net provide Linderman with access to
information and educational programs, allowing students to
interact with each other. Using the inquiry method of hands-on
activities, students engage in problem-solving and math skills
through the Comprehensive School Math Program. FOSS Science
Kits invite students to explore, discover, and experiment with
a variety of science projects.
The Title I School wide Plan focuses on early intervention
where language immersion in concepts involving listening,
speaking, writing, and print are emphasized. Linderman staff
and students utilize the MBI Cool Kids program to learn social
and interpersonal skills. Fourth grade students participate in
Linderman Village and Linderman Leadership Team. Both groups
assist in public relations, student concerns, and planning for
betterment of the school. A strong Parent-Teacher Association
and the Polson Partnership Project provide family enrichment
opportunities such as Family Fun Night. Parents are welcomed
as an important part of the learning community.
Middle & High Schools
Polson Middle School includes grades 5-8. It is Polson's
newest and most modern school, having been completed during
the
summer of 1991. The school includes two computer labs and a
well-equipped library. While seventh and eighth grade students
participate in several different classes with various teachers
throughout the day, fifth and sixth grade students are placed
in one self-contained classroom for their day; however, all
students have the opportunity to participate in music,
physical education, art, and computer classes. Special
education and Title I classes are available for students at
PMS.
Seventh and eighth grade students at PMS have seven
full-length classes including two electives, and one shorter
Sustained Silent Reading period. PMS also sponsors a variety
of sports and many other extracurricular activities. The
middle school behavior program implements a "refocus" plan for
students to reflect on their behavior and learn to make better
decisions in the future. The curriculum of PMS addresses not
only the cognitive development of students, but concentrates
on their social, physical, and emotional growth. Polson High
School is a modern comprehensive school serving 535 students
in grades 9-12. "To empower students to succeed in a changing
world" is the mission statement.
PHS utilizes the most modern technology available to ensure
the highest quality education and the best opportunities for
students. PHS has a fully equipped writing lab in addition to
many other computers throughout the school which all have
Internet access. Regular and advanced placement courses in the
core subjects are part of the school's program. A variety of
elective classes enrich students' academic careers at PHS.
Drama, business, computers, art, music, foreign languages,
technological education and physical education are a few of
the many classes offered to students. PHS also offers programs
for the special needs students and students who need extra
academic assistance. Through the Get a life portfolio, the
SAILS program, and Senior Portfolios students explore personal
growth, career possibilities, career preparation, and
postsecondary options. Students have a full slate of extra and
co curricular activities from which to choose ranging from
service organizations, to peer counseling, to publication
production . A variety of clubs, interscholastic athletic
competition, as well as ntramural sports are available to
students.
